Gender Equality

Research indicates that children’s concepts of gender and gender roles are formed as early as 3 years old, making it imperative to provide positive messaging at a young age. Our focus on gender equality works to counter negative gender stereotypes and toxic masculinity through challenging gender norms and roles. The approach has seen significant impact on changing children’s perceptions of gender.

When 1001 Nights was implemented in Lebanon, for example, the program successfully reduced notions of gender inequality amongst participants by 49%. This means that attitudes towards concepts such as women in leadership positions improved over the course of the program. All BBB properties normalize gender equality through their storylines while accompanying lesson plans provide the opportunity for more in-depth discussion around issues such as equity vs. equality.
