Psychosocial Support & Life Skills

Our flagship program, 1001 Nights Life skills and Civic Education Program, teaches children life skills,  social emotional skills and civic values. The program has been implemented in over 15 countries globally with substantial impact in the areas of peaceful conflict resolution, inclusion, and gender equality, amongst others. The 1001 Nights curriculum is structured to create stable routines, provide opportunities for friendship and play, foster hope, reduce stress, encourage self-expression, and promote collaborative behavior, all of which help children prevent and cope with adverse childhood experiences. Children watch or listen to episodes and are then guided through discussion questions and activities by teachers, facilitators, or parents, depending on the context.

One of its most unique aspects is its ability to reduce negative civic values. In Jordan, for example, there was a 79% reduction in participants’ willingness to break the law and a 42% reduction in their preference for violence to resolve disputes.

Every implementation of 1001 Nights is localized to the environment in which it is implemented in partnership with local organizations and ministries of education. In 2018, the 1001 Nights program won the World Innovation Summit for Education Award, presented at the United Nations General Assembly, for being one of the most innovative education programs in the world.
