Alien Book Club is currently in development as a coproduction between Vancouver’s Big Bad Boo Studios and the U.K.’s Beakus.
TVOKids is in development on a 2D-animated series titled Alien Book Club, from Vancouver-headquartered Big Bad Boo Studios (The Bravest Knight) and U.K. prodco Beakus (Big Lizard).
The 39 x seven-minute Canada/U.K. copro aims to ignite interest in classic books among kids aged four to six. In each episode, a librarian reads to a group of young aliens, who become part of the story and ultimately learn a life lesson.
Big Bad Boo co-founder Shabnam Rezaei is attached to produce the series with Beakus founder Steve Smith, who created Alien Book Club with writer Rachel Barnett-Jones (Pip and Posy) and Jemma Gross (Little Baby Bum).
The series is budgeted at roughly $4.9 million. Big Bad Boo and Beakus are currently seeking additional broadcast partners for the project.
The studios are also co-developing another animated series concept, S.TINK, a 26 x 11-minute adaptation of Jenny McLachlan’s Fairy vs Boy book series. Aimed at six- to 12-year-olds, the series follows a young boy who gets saddled with the world’s worst magical fairy (S. Tink), whose every effort to help ends in comedic mayhem. No broadcasters are currently attached to the project.
