About Us
Big Bad Boo Studios is an award-winning, creative-led animation and production studio that originates, develops, produces and distributes compelling kids’ content. Our shows, books and games are entertaining, educational, and multicultural. Our programs have broadcast in over 100 countries and 40 languages. We also operate our own streaming service, Oznoz.com, which offers premium family content in over 10 languages.
With studios, facilities and teams in Canada, the United States and Austria, we are proud to work with a roster of international broadcasters and local partners alike. Our animation facility in beautiful Yaletown offers a full range of animation production services for clients and original shows alike. All our offices have a green production and sustainability directive, named GREENCAP, which ensures our pipelines are efficient, environmentally conscious, and mindful. We leverage European and Canadian incentives, enabling us to produce shows at competitive rates, making us an ideal co-production partner in the global landscape.

Original IP Development
Big Bad Boo Studios prides itself on creating original IP in-house. Having developed multiple original productions, our team is well-versed in ideation, character development, character design, story development, bible creation and pitching new series ideas. To date, we have been finalists or winners at many international pitch contests, including the Mip Junior Pitch Contest in Cannes, Central and Eastern European Animation Forum, The Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield and Cartoon Forum. We understand what broadcasters are looking for and tailor our shows to meet their brand’s needs.
We have worked with world-class networks such as Hulu, Netflix, CBC Kids, Disney, Al Jazeera Children’s, TVOkids and many others.
21ST-CENTURY SKILLS, LITERACY AND NUMERACY
All Big Bad Boo shows are designed to be super entertaining for kids but also educational. When developing shows, our teams not only work with award-winning creatives from places like Disney and Warner Bros. but also include educators, childhood development psychologists and other subject matter experts from Sesame Workshop, PBS and departments of education worldwide.
All of our programs teach 21st-century skills, tightly aligned with globally recognized frameworks including CASEL, OECD and UNICEF Life Skills. We also create cartoon-based curricula used by schools, ministries of education, UNICEF and other educational institutions in over 15 countries and 40 languages.
Our Head of Childhood Development and Curriculum, Dr. Sholly Fisch, is the former Head of Childhood Development, Research and Curriculum for Sesame Workshop. Outside of 21st-century skills, we also develop shows and curricula that teach and accelerate foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
But don’t worry—while our shows are educational, they are first and foremost entertaining for kids!
Production
At Big Bad Boo Studios, we oversee the entire 2D animation production pipeline under one roof. We not only create, develop and finance new IP, films and TV series but also raise funding and produce the shows in-house.
Our pipeline includes: idea generation, script writing, character design, background design, prop design, storyboarding, editing, animatics, animation, voice recording, music composition, mixing and delivery. We always keep story and characters in mind, and we are proud to have produced twelve award-winning animated series to date.
We welcome co-productions with like-minded producers from around the world. We also work as partners, consultants or executive producers, providing deep support for young creatives who need guidance from an experienced crew.
